Took me a while to fully appreciate the book.
To rest in the sovereignty of God is such a great comfort. Not exactly my cup of tea.
Excellent book recording Puritan pastoral wisdom on the glavel of God. This book is a throwback to We often overlook providence in our lives, but yet for the Christian it touches everything we do.

Let us learn that, in an ultimate sense, we can never be ‘outside the will of God’. Flavel expounds on these eternal truths. So we can rest in Christ, and chill.
Most of the book, however, is simply Scriptural truth, applicable to any believer at any time and in any place. However, perseverance with the text, the concepts, ideas and applications of Scripture yield some majestic treasures. Flavel’s excellent book pulls back the shroud of selfishness and spurs a deeper appreciation for the God who grants underserved mercies. Besides that, I don’t engage with much of the examples the writer is using to show the providence of God in a believers life.
I think that it is a ‘must read’ book for Christians. Thanks for telling us about the problem. Then we may seek to work out what He is working in us.
He masterfully weaves in scripture to support his points and exhorts and encourages believers in a most convicting manner!
There are too many of these treasures to share or even highlight here. But Flavel demonstrates from numerous biblic Arguably, flaevl definable strength of the Puritans lied in their ability to take a subject like the providence of God and squeeze out all that Scripture teaches on the matter.
I found Flavel’s work spiritually nourishing and challenging. Meticulous providence is assumed.
Moreover we should have a right attitude to all circumstances, even the most adverse. My favorite doctrine is the Doctrine of Providence. I do like how the author brings the myxtery flavor to the subject of God’s providence. Though at times you may be challenged to agree with the authors assertion that n The most encouraging and friendly book I’ve read in a long time. Flavel provides an abundant store of examples of God’s providence. You will not find an argument for meticulous providence in this book, so the title is perhaps a little misleading.
Now it is a challenging read, not least because if reflects a use of the English language There are books that are written for a particular season of life and experience and then are other books which, although they mysstery be more relevant in particular seasons of life, are whole-life books. Flavel would teach us that God’s will for us is our duty to be found in His Word.
All our discontents will not prevail with God to call back, or as the word may be rendered, make void His Word Isa. First published inthis little work well illustrates and explains the purpose of God for his people.
